Blackpool South Signalbox
Summary
[edit]DescriptionBlackpool South Signalbox (geograph 6507306).jpg |
English: Blackpool South Signalbox Until 1964 the railway extended north from Blackpool South station to the old terminus at Blackpool Central. In between the two was a vast area of land used for carriage sidings. By 1973 all that remained was the signal box, seen here from the Waterloo Road bridge, marooned in a sea of waste land. It was still operational, and the signalman can be seen sitting inside, but all the trains it controlled were out of sight. This arrangement lasted until 1982 when the layout at Blackpool South was simplified and the signalbox was closed. The land is now mostly used as a car park. In the distance is the Bloomfield Road ground of Blackpool FC with its floodlights and an advert for 'Delicious Daintee Pop'. |
