Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bonaly Tower Lord Cockburn,noted Court of Session judge,bought the estate in 1811 following his marriage. In 1836 he commissioned the famous architect William Playfair to build a tower house on the site. The tower giving extensive views over Edinburgh and the Forth to Fife and beyond. Cockburn died in 1854 and another famous architect, David Bryce,further altered the property in 1866.
