Description
English: Satellite Antenna Tracker - http://sharjeelaziz.github.io/boresight

Introduction The aim of the project is to create an open source satellite antenna tracker especially for ham radio satellite communications using easily available components.

Design Goals

  • Use open source software
  • Must be portable
  • Automatically download TLE elements from the Internet
  • Get current location from a GPS
  • Use an electronic magnetometer as a compass to pan the antenna
  • Use servo motors and gears for pan and tilt
  • Track multiple satellites
  • Tune the receiver to the required frequency
  • Raspberry Pi and Python as the programming language

Status The current hardware and software is able to do the following:

  • Download the latest two-line elements (TLE) for the selected satellites every few minutes
  • Acquire and use GPS location from the GPSD
  • Using a magnetometer point the antenna towards the current azimuth of the satellite
  • Support an Arrow LEO Satellite Antenna - 3 Elements for 2 Meters crossed with 7 Elements for 70 cm
