Summary
[edit]DescriptionBorrowash Weir - geograph.org.uk - 1097705.jpg |
English: Borrowash Weir. As can be seen this weir maintains a height of four to five feet upstream which feeds the complex series of channels to the north. The last of which rejoins the river to the east of Borrowash bridge. As you would expect at time of higher flow the drop is not so high 1023437.
I suspect that the "natural" flow of the Derwent once followed that northerly path forming a meander and that the main flow over the weir is a man-made channel cutting through the neck of that meander. The weir is well designed with a beautifully curved downstream edge maintaining a smooth flow. |
