English: Boundary Post, Dunkerton. This post dated 1827 for is for the Bath Turnpike Trust. It is made of cast iron.
The Turnpike trusts were set up in the 18C and improved the roads by collecting tolls from those passing the toll gates set on major roads. Bath Turnpike Trust, established under an Act of 1707, was the first such Trust in North Somerset. |
