Summary[edit]
DescriptionBowling greens, Victoria Park, Leamington - geograph.org.uk - 1596993.jpg |
English: Bowling greens, Victoria Park, Leamington Between Archery Road and the New River Walk. The first bowling green in Victoria Park was by the Avenue Road gates, in the south-east corner of the park. Acknowledged to be undersized, the green opened in 1909. The fledgling bowls club was already hinting of the need for a second green. The corporation laid out the green in the foreground, now Green A, on the site of grass tennis courts in 1912. Green B followed in the early 1920s. The original green became a nursery but has since been built on. Greens C and D displaced the remaining tennis courts. Green E, the 5th green, was built within the park in 1995 in time for Womens' World Bowls in 1996. The park hosts international, national, county and local competitions. |
