English: Bridge No 1, Hatherton Branch Canal, Staffordshire This branch of the Staffs and Worcs Canal used to connect with the Birmingham Canal Navigations at Churchbridge Locks, where access to the Cannock extension allowed passage to the Wyrley and Essington Canal (to Walsall and then on to Birmingham) and eastwards via Ogley Junction to the Lichfield Canal and Huddlesford Junction on the Coventry Canal .... and so on.
Painstaking restoration work is being pioneered by the Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust. Do please consider becoming a member; it's a tenner a year. See http://www.lhcrt.org.uk/index.htm |
