Summary[edit]
DescriptionBridge at Helens Bay station - 1971 (geograph 3752806).jpg |
English: Bridge at Helen's Bay station - 1971 Helen's Bay station was financed by the Marquis of Dufferin & Ava and opened in 1865. The Marquis also constructed a private coach path which ran from Clandeboye House to the station and on to a nearby beach. Situated just to the west of the station, the coach-path bridge was decorated with the Marquis's coat of arms. Just above the bridge can be seen a BCDR semaphore signal, which controlled departure from the down (Bangor direction) platform. It was removed during re-signalling in 1975. The coach-path is now part of the Ulster Way. For a recent view, see: J4582 : Railway bridge, Helen's Bay. |
