Situation and Local it tj.—I have found tlie nestof this bhd in crevices and holes of rock, in thegnarled roots of trees growing on the banks ofstreams, amongst fern roots growing on the sidesof banks, in banks of rivers, amongst ivy growingagainst walls and trees, in holes in brick and stonewalls, faggot and hay-stacks; in the thatch ofbarns; amongst wreckage lodged in a thorn bushby a high flood; between the stems of tw^o treesgrowing close together over a stream, and lodgedamongst a few slender twigs sprouting from thetrunk of a tree where a large branch had beenlopped off, and various other situations. The sub-ject of one of our illustrations was found near thetop of a hedge, and the other amongst ivy growingagainst a garden wall. Tlie nest has been foundin all sorts of odd places, such as in cabbagesrun to seed, bodies of scarecrows, and the skeletonof a Carrion Crow hanging against a wall. Generallythroughout the British Isles.
