Summary[edit]

Description
English: Broken gravestone The headstone of a grave in the overgrown burial ground that was used until 1730 by the inhabitants of the vanished village of the Isle of May. The stone is engraved 'Here lyes John Wishart husband to Euphan Horsborough who lived on the Isle of May who died in March the 3 1730 aged 45'. He was probably the last person to be buried on the island although interments are believed to have started here some time in the bronze age, over 3,000 years ago.
