English: Commander, Naval Medical Center San Diego, Rear Adm. Christine M. Bruzek-Kohler presents the Bronze Star Medal to Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Jose L. Montanez, Nov. 6. Montanez was awarded for his exceptional meritorious service while deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as an embedded training team medical adviser for Regional Corps Advisory Command, Central Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan. Montanez provided medical support for 30 sites covering 9,800 miles of territory. He also conducted 100 mounted combat patrols throughout the hostile regions of six Afghan provinces.
