Summary[edit]

Description
English: Built in 1829, this was one of the last of the original design of coal-carrying engines for collieries, built between 1805 and 1829. They had a top speed of between 4 and 6mph. About 50 had been manufactured up to that point. It was built in the same year as the revolutionary "Rocket", which made these type of engines obsolete. This engine and its predecessors had a single flue running from the furnace through the water boiler. Sometimes very hot water from trackside boilers had to be used because this design was so inefficient. "Rocket" vastly increased the production of steam in the boiler by using multiple flues.

This engine was used at the Shutt End Colliery in Staffordshire until the 1860s.
