Summary[edit]

Description
English: Black Bulgar (Bulgaria inquinans). These disc-shaped fruiting bodies were individually 2-3 cm across; they were growing on a fallen log on the steep damp slopes of the valley of the Murroch Burn. To judge by the leaves around it, the log is a recently fallen oak, which is the usual host – compare 1070160 – but this species is also occasionally found on beech wood. Black Bulgar is only likely to be confused with 996198, but the fruiting bodies of Black Bulgar are essentially cup- or disc-shaped, while those of Witches' Butter are more irregular and brain-like; for other differences, see the link just cited.
