Guillaume Ritter Ingénieur à NeuchâteL -1835--19^2 Avec Guillaume Ritter, décédé dans sa propriété à Monruz, près Neuchà tel, le 14 septembre 1912, a dis- paru, beaucoup plus tôt qu'on ne l'aurait attendu de sa constitution robuste, une des ligures les plus marquantes de notre ville. Ritter était réputé bien au delà des frontières de notre canton et de la Suisse comme l'ingénieur génial aux conceptions larges et téméraires, hautement ap- précié dans notre cité pour tout ce qu'il a contribué à son progrès dans divers do- maines. Il était aimé et res- pecté de tous ceux qui l'approchaient pour l'amé- nité de son caractère, son désintéressement et sa bonté de cÅur qui s'alliaient à mer- veille à une exubérance de tempérament, un enthousiasme pour tout ce qui est beau et bon et une franchise parfois vive, mais toujours bienfaisante. Guillaume Ritter fut l'un des membres les plus zélés de la Société neuchà teloise des sciences naturelles. Reçu membre actif en 1857, il le demeura jusqu'à sa mort, c'est-à -dire pendant 55 ans. Les nombreuses contributions qu'il fournit à notre bulletin et dont la liste est annexée à ces lignes, font foi de son activité. Malgré le retard causé par des circonstances spé- ciales, nous devons une place à sa mémoire. Nous le faisons
