h yearaccommodation is furnished in the two large laboratories ofthe ground floor, one of which, specially designed for Physi-ology, is at present used also for Morphological work, and theother fitted up for practical instruction in PhysiologicalChemistry. The Morphological Laboratories are providedwith microscopes and all apparatus used by the students inMorphological work, and they contain, stored in glass cases,a large number of model and museum preparations for theillustration of animal and vegetable Morphology. The Bac-teriological Laboratory is provided with apparatus to illus-trate the Biology of Bacteria. The Physiological Laboratoryis provided with a fairly complete outfit of apparatus fordemonstrations in Physiology. This apparatus is used forillustrating the lectures in Physiology delivered to the stu-dents of the First and Second years in Arts and Medicine,but is also employed by students in advanced Physiology (offcfre Fourth year Arts) in repeating for themselves all the

Calendar for 1902—1903. 35 important experiments dealt with in the advanced lectureson the subject. The apparatus for lecture purposes includea projection microscope by Zeiss for electric light. The pho-tographic room in connection with the laboratories is suppliedwith all the apparatus used in photography as applied to thevarious kinds of biological work. The Chemical Building was completed in 1895. It contains,in addition to two lecture rooms with accommodation for 300and 100 students, respectively, special laboratories for quali-tative analysis, quantitative analysis, organic preparations,physical chemistry, gas analysis, combustion and furnaceoperations, and for the prosecution of original investigation.The total number of working places in these laboratoriesexceeds 200. The Laboratory for Mineralogy and Geology is accommo-dated temporarily in the west wing of the Biological Building.Assay furnaces and other appliances for the practical workof the department are provided.
