e special ma-chines designed and built bp the Ford-Smith Machine Co., Hamilton, Ont.They have a capacity for pulleys up to13 inches diameter by 18 inches face. The Hanger Shop. This is a new shop, built this yearto relieve the main machine shop. Asits name implies, it is chiefly, though byno means entirely, employed in machin-ing and assembling hangers. It alsolooks after large couplings, take-ups,stock pulleys, etc. Standard bearingsare also babbitted here. It is a welllighted shop with a concrete floor, 62 ft.by 40 ft. The principal machine toolequipment includes 24-inch Gisholtlathe, 3G-inch and 45-inch vertical drillpresses, 16-inch and 18-ineh enginelathes, 24-inch engine lathe with taperattachment and turret head, 24-inchturret lathe, Baker keyseating machineand several small sensitive drills. The main cleaning room, situated atthe east end of the heavy foundry, isequipped with the usual grinding standsfitted with exhaust hoods. There arethree tumblers 36 in. by 50 in., these be-ing housed in a lean-to which is cut offfrom the cleaning room by swingingshutters. In this way dust is- kept downto a very marked extent. The cleaning room for hangers andother stock jobs is at the south end ofthe light foundry and adjoins the hangermachine shop. It is equipped with twotumbling barrels and ring wheel grind-ing machine with automatic travelingtable, on which the bases of all hangersare dressed up true.
