Grain may be receivedfrom cars at a rate of 33,000 bushels perhour, and at the same time from boatsat a rate of 55,000 bushels per hour. Grain can be shipped by conveyor sys-tem to ocean steamers at their regularberths at a rate of 150,000 bushels perhour, equal to 4,500 tons per hour. Itis possible to deliver grain to five steam-ers at the same time at a rate of 30,000 Royal Tunnel, by the managing engineerof the new undertaking, Mr. S. P.Brown, who lectured before them recent-ly. Thepresent conveyor system comprises twomiles of conveyor galleries and overeight miles of rubber belting, in additionto this there is under construction an-other half mile of gallery with two milesof rubber belting. The constructing engineers for theMontreal Harbor Commissioners werethe John S. Metcalf Co., Ltd., Montreal,under Mr. F. W. Cowie, chief engineer.This company were also the designersof the conveyor system in connectionwith elevator No. 1. It is easy to saythat this building or that building- is thebest ever built, and that this elevatoror that elevator can handle more grainthan any other; the Harbor Commis-sioners responsible for the new work,Messrs.
