Summary

[edit]
Description

One of 17 tunnels on what was called at the time of construction--"The Impossible Railroad". The SAN DIEGO AND ARIZONA EASTERN RAILWAY wound it's way across the Jacumba Mountains, but because of monumental operating and repair costs--operations on the line were eventually discontinued.

In 2001, assets were purchased by CARRIZO GORGE RAILWAY which hopes some day to restore service on the line.
