Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Carrubber's Close Mission, High Street Carrubber's Close Mission, now Carrubber's Christian Centre, is an imposing 19th century addition to the splendours of the Royal Mile. The foundation stone was laid in 1884 by the American evangelist Dwight Moody (of Moody and Sankey fame), who raised £10,000 for the cost of the building. Major restructuring of the interior in the 1990s led to the loss of the original pews. The ornamental supports for the electric lamps in the first-floor drawing room were recently acquired from the German Embassy in Washington D.C.
