The mother supports the child, who isnearly exhausted in the struggle, by clutching her right arm at the elbow. AAitha sturdy stride the vigorous peasant woman bends her head to the gale, holdingthe faggots in her blue apron, tightly clasping the burden to her breast. Her redpetticoat is swept across her knees, and a large white shawl enveloping her headflutters far behind her in the wind. The light falls strongly upon the grouj) fromthe left, bringing into vigorous relief the flesh and the wind-tossed drapery againsta lowering sky and sombre landscape. Siyned at the lower left, J. F.
