Title
Château d'eau
Description
The Château d'eau was inaugurated in 1811 between the boulevard Saint-Martin and the rue de Bondy. Measuring 13 meters in diameter and 5 meters in height, the Château d'eau was a fountain featuring eight lions that expelled water into the main basin. The rapid development of the Place du Château d'eau resulted in an eventual rebuilding of the fountain in 1874. In 1883, however, the Château d'eau was once again permanently moved to make room for the statue of the République.
