Summary[edit]

Description
English: Chessman Sculpture The wooden sculpture by Stephen Hayward is based on one of the 93 walrus ivory Norse chessmen found near here in 1831. Most are now in the British Museum in London, but some are in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. See Lewis_chessmen for more information, though there seems to be a discrepancy in the numbers quoted there and on the information board by the sculpture.
