Description

Official designation:- FV4201 Chieftain Mark 11C Main Battle Tank. British registration ’05 EB 65’ The Chieftain was Britain’s Main Battle Tank from 1965 until 1995 when it was replaced by the Challenger 1. When introduced to service the specification of its gun and armour led to it being referred to as the “most formidable MBT in the world”. This example saw British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) service between 1969 and 1985 (at least) before becoming a gate guard at the Bovington based Armoured Trials and Development Unit (ATDU) between 1989 and 1998. It is now preserved and on display in the Tank Story Hall at The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset, UK.
