Summary
[edit]DescriptionChimney on Stublick Moor - geograph.org.uk - 371091.jpg |
English: Chimney on Stublick Moor A relic of the lead smelting industry. The mound in the foreground is the tunnel flue to the chimney. These flues were up to 2 miles in length and acted as condensers for the smelting fumes. This resulted in significant amounts of lead being deposited in the flues which could be economically recovered. The effect on the health of those employed to do this can be well imagined. In this instance, the tunnel is partially collapsed. |
