The place was Kettering, Northampton-shire, in the house of Mrs. Beeby Wallis, the widowof a deacon whose ancestor had been the instru-ment, in the hands of God, of establishing theBaptist Church in that town a century before. Theministers were twelve in number, all of them mem-bers of the Northamptonshire Association, who onthat occasion withdrew together, after the public ser-vices of the day were concluded, to discuss the planwhich, in obedience to a resolution of the Associa-tion at the Nottingham meeting in the spring, hadbeen prepared.
