Summary[edit]
DescriptionChurch of St Thomas a Becket, Shirenewton viewed from the NE (geograph 3179047).jpg |
English: Church of St Thomas a Becket, Shirenewton viewed from the NE. Much of the church, including the castle-like fortified tower, date from the 13th century. The building served a dual purpose, as a place of defence as well as of worship. The church was dedicated to St. Thomas a Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury who was murdered in his cathedral in 1170.
The church was restored and enlarged in 1853. |
