English: An Afghan boy fills a kettle with water while Afghan men dig a new drainage system to control the flow of runoff in the bazaar of Golestan, Farah province, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, March 13. Marines with 3rd Civil Affairs Group facilitated the new drainage system project in order to make improvements to the community, which has seen notable security increases in the past. The civil affairs team has worked closely with the Marines of second platoon, Company K, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment (Reinforced), the ground combat element of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Afghanistan, to ensure the success of such projects. Second platoon is in Golestan to conduct counterinsurgency operations, and train and mentor the Afghan national police. |
