[edit]DescriptionClaxton pumping station beside the Wherryman's Way - geograph.org.uk - 1358766.jpg |
English: Claxton pumping station beside the Wherryman's Way. This section of the long distance footpath forms part of one of the circular walks which branch off the Wherryman's Way. Claxton Circular Walk starts at Mill Lane > 1358537 which turns off The Street in Claxton, leading through Claxton Marsh > 1358693 northwards along Carleton Beck > 1358701 until it reaches the River Yare by the Beauchamp Arms public house > 1358710 - 1358744 where it meets the Wherryman's Way > 1358728. Followed in south-easterly direction the long distance path leads to Loddon which is 4 miles distant. Following the course of the river in westerly direction the circular walk leads past Rockland Broad > 1335097 and onwards to Rockland St Mary Staithe > 1334550 and to the nearby New Inn > 1334572.
The Wherryman's Way > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1340030 is a 35-mile long distance footpath following the route of the Broads trading wherries between Norwich and Great Yarmouth. The route takes its name from the wherry - a large cargo-carrying barge whose black sails used to be a common sight on these waters. Ten circular village walks branch off this path along the way. |
