He studied law andafterward theology at the Garrett Bib-lical Institute and the NorthwesternUniversity, and then served as pastor inseveral cities in New York and Pennsyl-vania. From 1899 to 1904 he was pastorin Philadelphia and from 1904 to 1913he was pastor of the Central Presby-terian Church of Rochester, N. Y.
