Lemet, engraver, practiced in a manner similar to thatemployed by St. Memin, the drawings being first done life size andthen reduced by the physiognetrace. He worked in Albany, N. Y.,about 1805. Lepelletier. Engraver. Some maps engraved in 1814 bear hissignature. Lesueur. Alexander Charles Lesueur, engraver, artist andzoologist was born Havre de Grace, France, January 1, 1778, wherehe died December 12,1846. He came to Philadelphia in 1815, taughtdrawing and painting and became prominent in scientific circles.He returned to France in 1837. Lewis. David Lewis, portrait painter, had a studio in 1805 at 2Tremont Street, Boston. Lewis. J. Lewis, engraver. The book-plate of Dr. Peter Middle-ton, who was in New York 1750-1781, is signed by him. COLONEL JOHN MAY 1748-1812By Christian Gullagek From the collection of the American Antiquarian Society ADDENDA 315 and in 1835 he drew on stone and published in Philadelphia a seriesof Indian portraits from sketches made by him in Detroit in 1833. Lewis. W. Lewis painted portraits in Salem, Mass., in 1812. Hiswork appeared frequently in the early exhibitions at the BostonAthenaeum. Lewis. The following advertisement appeared in the BostonWeekly Journal of December 13, 1737: Yardley Lewis of Londonlate from Ireland dwelt lately in widow Howards house near thenorth market place Draws family pictures by the Life, also surveysand draws maps. Lincoln. James Sullivan Lincoln was born in Taunton, Mass., in1811. At ten years of age he came to Providence, R. L, where hewas apprenticed to William D. Terry as an engraver. At seventeenhe had chosen the profession of portrait painter and established hisstudio in Providence. He died January 18, 1888. He was the firstpresident of the Providence Art
