| Description |
English: Commemorative Bench at Wistlandpound This bench overlooks Wistlandpound Reservoir. The footpath in the background is, I believe, the trackbed of the old Lynton and Barnstaple Railway, which was closed in 1935. The carving on the bench depicts the railway line, with Barnstaple, Chelfham, Blackmoor, Woody Bay and Lynton inscribed along the line. These were the principal stations along the route. There is an ongoing project to re-open part, if not all, of the line again. Trains now run regularly at Woody Bay. See the railway's web-site at www.lynton-rail.co.uk |
