Summary
[edit]DescriptionCrick Tunnel, Grand Union Canal, Northamptonshire - geograph.org.uk - 845967.jpg |
English: Crick Tunnel, Grand Union Canal, Northamptonshire This tunnel is 1528 yards (about 1500 metres) in length and was opened in 1814. The width allows two seven feet wide narrowboats to pass each other in opposite directions - with care! As with all tunnels built in this area, quicksands caused great problems, and the originally planned route had to be altered. In this photograph, the dot in the distance is the south portal exit, about half a mile away. The tunnel roof drips water incessantly. |
