Summary[edit]

Description
English: Cross-Country train approaches Old Milverton The train is approaching the bridge. It is a northbound service from Bournemouth to Manchester Piccadilly and seems to be running a little late. The line was originally a branch of the London & Birmingham Railway between Coventry and New Milverton, midway between Warwick and Leamington. It opened in December 1844 and was soon extended to Leamington and on to Rugby. The Coventry-Leamington section was closed to passenger traffic in 1968 and the Leamington-Rugby branch dismantled. The Coventry-Leamington line reopened to passenger traffic in 1977. It makes services possible between the north and the south coast via Birmingham, Oxford and Reading. The line now carries 16 Cross-Country trains in each direction on weekdays, together with the Wrexham & Shropshire service from London Marylebone, and freight. There is a stretch of double track through Kenilworth which must allow trains to pass or overtake. There is talk of dualling the whole line from time to time.
