Summary[edit]

Description
English: Cross-Country train heads for Kenilworth and Coventry A Bournemouth to Manchester Piccadilly train speeds away from the Sandy Lane bridge, Old Milverton. The line descends to cross the River Avon and its floodplain by a low viaduct, marked approximately by the furthest of the three white objects. It straddles a gridsquare intersection. Southern Kenilworth is on the skyline: the spire of St John's church can be faintly seen at the end of the track. The line was opened in 1844 as a branch of the London & Birmingham Railway from Coventry to New Milverton, midway between Warwick and Leamington, and was soon extended. It permits direct services between the North and the south coast via Birmingham, Leamington Spa and Reading. The line currently carries up to 16 Cross-Country trains a day in each direction, as well as the Wrexham & Shropshire service from London Marylebone, and freight. There is a stretch of double track through north Kenilworth, allowing trains to pass or overtake.
