Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Crossing Rove Gill Stepping stones are common enough, but in places where there are no rocks to use, locally it is common to use concrete blocks cast to this shape, with the pointed end facing upstream. Bowes Moor is certainly short on rocks, being typical of the peaty terrain crossed by the Pennine Way. Winter is a good time to cross this moor, with the ground frozen into a semblance of solidity, a covering of snow meaning that skis can be used for more speed in the limited daylight and even less chance of sinking without trace in the bog.
