Summary[edit]

Description
English: Crumbling cliffs of shale, near Treyarnon. The cliff above Fox Cove is slowly crumbling away. As the sea erodes the bottom of the 40 metre high cliff, support for the top is removed. Here the bedding planes are sloping down away from the cliff top, from left to right in the photo. The edge of the topsoil can be seen, about a foot (30 cm) deep. Crops on fields near the cliff top are very dependent on rain, as the top soil cannot hold much water.
