Object history
Deutsch: Der Name der Gemeinde wird um 1120 erstmals als „Hingesteten" im Zusammenhang mit einer Schenkung an das Kloster Hirsau erwähnt und ist von einem Personennamen abzuleiten. Im Wappen wird jedoch der Ortsname in seiner jetzigen sprachlichen Form durch den Hengst versinnbildlicht. Nachdem die Gemeinde schon zuvor einen steigenden Hengst ohne Wappenschild als Siegelbild geführt hatte, schlug die Archivdirektion Stuttgart 1920 das „redende" Wappen vor, das jedoch erst seit 1952 endgültig in dieser Form und Tingierung verwendet wird. Im Jahre 1974 wurden das von Waldensern 1699 gegründete Neuhengstett und Ottenbronn nach Althengstett eingemeindet. Die Gemeinde behielt ihren Namen und das sich darauf beziehende Wappen bei. Die Flagge wurde am 8. Juni 1982 vom Landratsamt Calw verliehen.
