Description
English: Erbaut 1929/30 von Fairfields Shipbuilding in Govan (am Clyde) unter dem Namen "Empress of Japan". Das von Dampfturbinen angetriebene Schiff, das mit seinen drei Kaminen grösser aussah als es war (um 26‘000 BRT), wurde bis zum Kriegsausbruch im Transpazifikverkehr Canada-Fernost eingesetzt. Nach Kriegseintritt der USA wechselte das Schiff seinen Namen auf "Empress of Scotland" und fuhr als Truppentransporter. Modernisierung nach dem Krieg. Es fuhr hauptsächlich auf der Route Liverpool-New York, unternahm aber mehr und mehr auch Kreuzfahrten. 1957 wurde das Schiff nach Deutschland verkauft, wo es grundlegend umgebaut wurde und 1958/59 als "Hanseatic" wieder im Transatlantikverkehr in Erscheinung trat. Im September 1966 fing das Schiff im Hafen New York Feuerund brannte weitgehend aus. Der Wrack wurde nach Hamburg geschleppt und dort abgewrackt
