BORN 1661 DIED 1731 AUTHOR OF ROBINSON CRUSOE The inscription goes on to state that the monument was the result of an appeal in the 'Christian World' newspaper to the boys and girls of England for funds to erect a suitable memorial upon the grave and that 1700 persons contributed in 1870. To the right is the grave of William Blake and further across a magnificent fig tree. |
