Summary[edit]

Description
English: Part of a destroyed village reduced to piles of broken timber and burnt trees. A single brick wall is left standing. The caption identifies this as Le Barque, a village near Bapaume, to the south of Arras. This had been captured by the Australians in the spring of 1917, during the Allied advance.

It is probable that this photograph dates from the Allied advance during the spring of 1917, when the retreating German army destroyed many villages as they left them.
[Original reads: 'The debris of Le Barque, after the bombardment.']
