Deutsch: Soldat Kopf der Skulptur von Jupp Rübsam in Düsseldorf an der Tonhalle - Das 39er Denkmal von Jupp Rübsam. Dieses Denkmal widmete Rübsam den Gefallenen des Regiments. Seine tragende Idee war es, Kameradschaft und Gegenseitige Hilfe darzustellen: ein Soldat legt seine Hand auf die Hand des neben ihm liegenden Verwundeten Kameraden. Rübsams Formensprache provozierte schon vor Aufstellung des Denkmals 1928 unterschiedliche Reaktionen: während es als eines der üblichen Kriegsdenkmäler von Seiten der SPD und KPD abgelehnt wurde, war es extrem nationalistischen Kreisen zu wenig "Deutsch". Gegen solche Angriffe verteidigte die "Rheinische Sezession" und mit ihr über 400 Künstler Rübsams Arbeit und forderten die Verantwortlichen der Stadt auf, zu diesem Denkmal zu stehen und damit den Düsseldorfs Ruf als Kunststadt gerecht zu werden. Das Denkmal wurde bereits vor dem Abriss durch die Nationalsozialisten 1933 mehrfach durch Attentate von politisch rechts stehenden Kräften beschädigt. Kurz vor dem Einmarsch deutscher Truppen in Polen weihten die Nationalsozialisten ein neues, den Krieg verherrlichendes Denkmal am Reeser Platz ein. |
