Not only can larger areas be obtained bythis method, but locations and structures inac-cessible to the small films are reached and theirimages accurately and clearly recorded upon thelarger plates. Therefore, the advantage of thismethod is well founded. The technic is simple when once mastered, butmust be adhered to accurately if the results areto be depended upon for diagnosis. In using theextra-oral method, large plates or films are usedand the areas desired are brought in as close acontact as possible with the plate, by pressing orresting the side or portion of the face upon ivhich 94 DENTAL AXD ORAL RADIOGRAPHY the structures desired are located, against theplate. First of all, the patient must be placed in aposition so that the head can be held perfectlystill. The dental chair with a few adjustmentsoffers an excellent means for accomplishing this.
