English: Plaque in the staircase, commemorating the opening of the Guildhall in 1890. Transcription:

Erected to commemorate the opening of this Guildhall by the Corporation of Londonderry. The foundation stone having been laid by Sir Whittaker Ellis Baronet M.P. on the 23rd day of August 1887 Sir Thomas Lecky Knight J.P. being Mayor of Londonderry, and the Building opened and dedicated to municipal uses by His Excellency the Right Honorable Laurence Dundas, Earl of Zetland, Lord Lieutenant General and General Governor of Ireland on the 31st day of July 1890 in the presence of the Worshipful Aaron Baxter J.P. Mayor of Londonderry.
