Summary
[edit]DescriptionDisused quarry at Doghillock - geograph.org.uk - 1569122.jpg |
English: Disused quarry at Doghillock I briefly stepped off the footpath to photograph this quarry from one of the slopes on its eastern side. The footpath runs from left to right just beyond the far side of the quarry; just in front of a tree, slightly left of centre, one of the signposts along that route is visible.
Although heavy vehicles have clearly been here recently, the quarry dates back to at least the nineteenth century; in 1899, it was already labelled an "Old Quarry" on Ordnance Survey maps. A Tree Preservation Order has been enacted to preserve the woodlands surrounding the quarry. |
