Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Dock Crane, Belfast [6] Three cranes used to unload ships at Stormont Wharf in Belfast docks. As many ships carry, for example, loose aggregates, grain or animal feeds in their holds, the cranes are used to scoop the cargo out. It is then moved towards the grey hopper shaft on the left of each crane, underneath which would sit an articulated lorry with a dry-bulk trailer. The cargo is then released from the crane grab, dropping through the hopper into the trailer. Once the trailer is full the lorry speeds off to its destination and the next one drives under the hopper. The whole process is then repeated, taking up to a week to fully unload some of the larger vessels. See other related Geograph images at 3053258 .
