| Description |
English: Dwarf birch trees (betula nana) These little trees grow in special moorland conditions, usually in clumps I observed. The red colour is from the ends of the twigs and the buds, as they were in early March. I found numerous clumps in the area around Coniston but mostly rather smaller than these. There's not much mention of these in England but there has been some active conservation in Scotland where browsing animals were spoiling them. Maybe the National Park Authority should publicise the facts about these interesting and fairly rare trees. |
