Notes
  • Significance: Building No. 792 is one of a group of modified, series 700 and 800 structures at Eglin Air Force Base, built during World War II and more commonly known as "World War II temporaries." Building No. 792 functioned as one of three original structures planned by the Army Air Forces (AAF) as "crash boat dock and wharfage facilities" in 1942. Building No. 792 served as a repair shop, with a boat ramp and a barracks adjacent. The AAF enlarged Building No. 792 during the early 1950s, simultaneously assigning Building No. 744 to the group. (Building No. 744 replaced an earlier structure as administrative headquarters for marine operations.) The marine operations units responded to sea emergencies and assisted in Air Force testing and training at the Air Proving Ground and for the Armament Center. Building No. 792 is one of four buildings comprising a marine operations historic district formally determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
