Summary[edit]
DescriptionEarl Haig Memorial, Whitehall, London, UK - 20090626 - geograph.org.uk - 1380072.jpg |
English: The Earl Haig Memorial, a statue of Field Marshall Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig (19 June 1861 – 29 January 1928), who commanded the British Army in France for most of the Great War, most notably in the Battle of The Somme, the 3rd Battle of Ypres and the several victories which led up to Germany's 1918 surrender (thanks to RichTea for this information). It is the third statue along Whitehall Gardens, after the Women of World War II Cenotaph (which I have also pictured). Further photos of the statue can be found here http://www.ww1cemeteries.com/british_cemeteries_memorials/haig_mem_london.htm. View taken looking north-north-east. |
