AILWAY JOURNAL (Vol. XLIII, No. 19. DOUBLE-ENDED WRECK CAR A self-propelling wrecking outfit has just been putinto service in the electric zone of the New York Cen-tral & Hudson River Railroad in New York City. Thewrecker has at each end a crane having a capacity of100 tons and permitting operation independent of theother. The machine will pass under the low bridgesprevalent in the electric zone, will operate over a curveof 135-ft. radius and will develop a speed of more than machine is similar to that built in 1910 by the samecompany for the New York terminal of the Pennsyl-vania Railroad, but has double the capacity and hasentirely new features in the storage battery equipment,the ability to propel itself at a comparatively highspeed and the power-operated outriggers. The car body is 57 ft. long and 9 ft. 6 in. wide andis constructed entirely of steel. At each end is a boomwhich will revolve through 180 deg. and can be oper-ated independently of or simultaneously with the other.
