Text Appearing After Image:
June 30, 1917) ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL The Lightest of All Trucks Judged by the numbers built each year, the BrillSingle Motor Truck, 39-E, has been the foremosttruck in the electric railway field for the last sevenyears. The reason is plain. It is a city truck andthe big city systems of the world operate a largernumber of cars by far than the other classes of elec-tric railways together, and as they use mostly double-trucks and need the type of truck that gives thehighest service and greatest economy, the majorityof them have chosen the 39-E as their standard. Asit is subjected to very considerably less weight andstrain than the double-motor truck, the single-motortype is of lighter construction. Weight, too, is savedby the use of pony wheels and their smaller axles.Less weight and single-motor equipment means lessinitial cost, less operating cost and less maintenancecost for both trucks and motors.
